What should I Say on Failure in Previous Attempts?
This is for repeaters. A lot many candidates have appeared in the past also. You are required to mention the no of chances availed in past and the majority has not tasted success. The IO would certainly ask about your previous attempts and your own reasons for not making it there.
He might ask you to compare the structure or schedule of tests of the present attempt the previous attempts; and the difference in your performance over the last attempts.
The assumption is that each experience of life teaches us something. When you fail in a mission, you must make a fair analysis as to what was amiss. Were the environmental factors were responsible or were they due to some shortcomings on the part of the individual. Else, was it due to inappropriate strategy? Trust me no prejudice, bias or favors can be attached to the wisdom and professional output of SSBs. If you have not made it, there is a reason for self-analysis.
SSBs don’t have any inhibition in recommending you if you are found suitable. They don’t have any restriction on the number of people to be recommended. If you have not succeeded in previous attempts, the best thing would be to accept the results and seriously introspect about the qualities and work on the weaker areas. Certain qualities (ex-expression, presentation skills) develop on a long-term basis while certain qualities need conditioning of mind (imagination, perceptual skills, mental stamina). Expecting instant success is merely fooling yourself.
If you have worked well on the above, the answer to the question is no mystery.

I Don’t Have a Fixed Routine- What Must I Say Then?
Try to understand the wisdom behind this question. Having a fixed routine helps you manage your time, space, and things better. Remaining organized helps you during the time of emergency. A routine in life prevents you from being haphazard. You can avoid the influence of many unwanted things in life if you follow a routine. It helps you remain independent.
However, the IO knows well that you cannot have a very strict routine. While you are following a time table most of the time (say- your sleep, your school/college, your games/sports/fun, seeing your friends, etc) you must have some element of flexibility also. Consistency and flexibility both make a personality holistic. It is your flexibility that helps you adapt to varying circumstances; else you will break down.
Having a routine is fine but rigidity is uncalled for. As long as you are in the formative stages of life, you are not expected to be rigid. It is also a fact that many a time, having a fixed and rigid routine makes you mechanical and ‘programmed’. Such people lack the ability to accommodate or feel stressed when circumstances change. Leave a space and scope of modification at all.
You must be organized and consistent. In no case, a haphazard and disorganized, personality is suitable for the job in the armed forces. This is the spirit behind IO’s inquiry on your routine.
Tough Personal Questions: How to Go About Them
It’s a fact that no two IOs go about the interview process the same fixed way. They change the order and content of CIQ from candidate to candidate. Also, to some extent, their own thinking and personality are reflected in their conduct of the interview.
Some IOs (of late it has been noticed) probe into some aspect that might appear ‘personal’. While dealing with the friend circle they dwell on the ‘boyfriend-girlfriend’ equation. Sometimes some embarrassing questions like having the experience of sex were asked by a few IOs.
All I would say, that such a pursuit is being absolutely non-professional in approach. You are not bound to answer these questions. You may politely decline to say that these are my personal matters and I request you to please grant me my privacy. If the IO is sane enough he will take a clue. Else, you are well within your rights to report the matter to the President/concerned services HQs. You must know how to protect your dignity.
